This past weekend in Wellington, Florida, at the Global Dressage Festival’s Palm Beach Derby, more than a dozen PREs competed in the national and international rings for the Derby Perpetual PRE Award Having 15 representatives of the PRE breed together at one of the season’s most competitive international dressage shows was an impressive turn out And even more than numbers, the results were in the high ranges

Two PREs topped national FEI classes during the week: The Open Intermediare I on Thursday was won by 7 Year Old PRE Stallion FIero HGF, ridden by Nicholas Fyffe and trained by US Team Trainer Robert Dover with a score of 67697 Likewise, in the Open Grand Prix on Sunday, 19 year old Cartujo, ridden by Holger Bechtloff, showed that he is still a winner at the level, topping the Sunday class with 654% Cartujo—a favorite of PRE watchers on the winter circuit— is owned by Judy Streisand

Scores for the other PRE riders were similarly high, most scoring in the high 60s at levels from First to Grand Prix—a very strong showing for our horses and riders

The PRE High Point Award at the Derby is a perpetual award--open to members and non-members alike--given to the highest individual score in 2 divisions: Open and CDI This year’s recipients were:

OPEN: Maya Markowski and Lucero Bello II, bred in Canada by Killala Farm and owned by USPRE member Jill Gale of Ontario, with 69744 at Third Level Test 3 Maya Markowski, from Peterborough, Ontario, was classically trained in Germany and operates a successful training business in St Clements

CDI: Alexandra Meghi and Iliado II, bred by Hampton Green Farm in Michigan and owned by USPRE Youth Rider Alexandra and her parents, also of Ontario Canada, with 68378% at the FEI Junior Team Test Alexandra was Bronze Medalist at the NAJYRCs with Iliado, and recipient of the USPRE’s Horse and Rider of the Year Award for 2014
