Dressage at Lexington
11-14 July 2013
Virginia Horse Center
Lexington, Virginia
Dressage at Lexington was held this year surrounded by lush green fields due to the extraordinary amounts of rain The cool weather lowered the normal summertime temperatures allowing the horses to perform at their best The PRE horse was well represented with nine entries including two sons JC Patricio and JC Olympico by the well known dressage stallion, Espiritu, owned by Jenny Coyle Johnson and bred by Karen Lewis of S&S Stables The other purebred entries were Alexandria WAE, Karateka III, Galahad,Tamarindo IX, General, Simia de Lana, and Idues
Karen Lewis brought her imported trained Doma Vaquera horse, Cordobes for the evening exhibition Much to the delight of the crowd, Damion Maciel of Doma Maciel Horse Training, gave a garrocha demonstration This traditionally attired pair brought shouts of delight with an exciting and skillfully ridden pattern only topped when his adorable wife Maddy joined him for an "a la grupa" ride around a cheering ring
The USPRE booth was well received and brochures, decals, and USPRE logo shirts were given out to appreciative participants The Purebred Spanish Horse is taking its place in the Dressage rings of the USA along with an increasing interest in the breed It was gratifying to see our breed so well represented at such a prestigious open show
