Wellington, FL – Dressage rider, Janne Rumbough was there when it all began, at the very first Palm Beach Dressage Derby 30 years ago, and this year, she still showed everyone how it’s done by riding into the ribbons at this same prestigious show held during the 2013 Florida Winter Equestrian Festival Custom Saddlery was proud to honor Rumbough with the Most Valuable Rider Award MVR for her impressive performances during the 2013 Palm Beach Derby, as well as in recognition of her continued dedication to the sport of dressage “I feel very honored, and my husband is so proud of me!” Rumbough said about being named Custom’s MVR, “I really appreciate Custom Saddlery for being so generous and sponsoring an award like this It truly means a lot to all of us who love the sport of dressage”
Rumbough rode her 11-year-old PRE Junior at the Grand Prix level during the show, as well as her young PRE, Afilado She took first place in the USEF 2nd Level Test of Choice with a 64524% on Afilado, whom she bred and trained through all the levels herself “The journey is so much fun,” Rumbough described “I feel very fortunate to be able to do it at my age, which is 69 years old!” she smiled Rumbough’s continuous dedication has benefited the sport of dressage in the US tremendously, especially in the exclusive equestrian community in south Florida, of which she has been a part for over 36 years Reflecting on the past, she described the thought and planning that went into the first Palm Beach Dressage Derby in 1983 “We all knew we had to do something special to get people down to this area of Florida,” she explained “So, we raised $25,000 for the first Derby, 30 years ago This really changed the picture for high class dressage, because there was no show like it in the whole world with that much prize money” Rumbough added that through the years they’ve tried to make the Derby special by always having international judges at the show “The show has been wonderful, and it has become so special today because of the many sponsored awards the riders receive, and the Custom Saddlery MVR is one of them!”
Custom Saddlery MVR awards will continue to be presented at select shows throughout the winter season Custom’s team of sponsored riders include US Olympic Dressage veterans, Steffen Peters, Heather Blitz, and Sue Blinks In addition, Custom Saddlery endorses a host of other dressage superstars including Tina Konyot, Kathleen Raine, Lauren Sammis, Caroline Roffman, Endel Ots and David Wightman just to name a few Custom Saddlery’s website is designed for the serious equestrian, and they encourage everyone to visit wwwmysaddlecom to learn more about their saddles On the website, visitors can view each type of saddle they offer, the various customizable options and sizes, read about the warranty, pricing policy and how the saddles were developed
